Only In Him

A girl who is completely paralyzed posted about needing help for all of life. When I saw it, I immediately thought “what good would I be if I couldn’t do anything for anyone.” It is a thought that has not left my heart.

At 14 years old, God whispered to me and placed the calling on my life, “I’m healing you so you can help others.” From that moment, I knew I wanted to always give to others what I wish I was able to grasp: how deeply, fully and sincerely loved I was by my Dad, not for what I could do for Him, but for just being who He made me to be as His daughter.

This rope has been tied to the back of my boat for 6+ years. I have pulled countless hours on it, multiple tubes, various weights, in all kinds of environments and difficulties. (Many of them as opportunities to grow for me IYKYK.) It wasn’t until needing a new tube that I discovered the bar this rope was tied to was never meant for towing. That bar is designed to help someone get out of the water. The two D rings below are there to equally distribute the weight of any towable behind the boat making it an easier pull- for the boat, those in the boat and those behind it. I’ve been pulling weight from the wrong place for all these years.

As a young girl, I thought I had to be helpful and perfect to be useful and wanted.

When we are pulling weight from the wrong place, our pure desires become stressful, tiring and heavy. And what was meant to help people carries a burden it wasn’t meant to pull.

It has never been in our own strength that He has called us to do anything. It is only in Him that we can have contentment whatever the circumstances. Not in our own worth, our own strength, our own “usefulness”. That’s pulling from the wrong source. As humans, we know what it is to be in need and we know what it is to have plenty. And as children of God, we know in that, in every place, we have rest in Him. Philippians 4:11-14

When we pull from the right source, we can live out His purpose for our lives knowing that it is not our own “usefulness” that gives us our value and belonging, but it is through Him who gives us strength.

His yoke is easy and His burden is light. Matthew 11:28-30

You are loved!

Originally from Pike Road, Alabama, Amy Cate grew up with bare feet and a bow in her hair. She spent most of her childhood playing outside with her neighbors, making forts, shooting basketball, swinging her bat or driving her golf cart as the neighborhood shuttle. At nine years old, she met Jesus in the woods at summer camp and she is convinced everything good happens outside. In September 2004, life as she knew it changed with one diagnosis and six months later, her dad and Prince Charming met Jesus face to face. Middle school started a few months later and she spent the next several years wondering where she would belong in a world not made for her. Girl Talk is the discovery of belonging in Christ and the dream and calling to bring girls and moms into that same belonging in having Jesus as their best friend.
