Who Are You?

Do you ever hear this question in your head. “Who Are You?”

Or maybe you ask yourself “Who Am I?”

The world is constantly telling us who we are. Who we are supposed to be.

Satan is constantly using our thoughts, other people’s words, someone else’s picture, a post on Facebook, number of likes on Instagram and so much more to make us believe that who we are holds its worth in those earthly things.

I fall for it every time.

You’re not good enough. You’re not pretty enough. You’re annoying. You talk too much. You need too much. You’re not fast enough. You’re too desperate. Nobody wants you. Nobody cares. You’re too fat. You’re too skinny. You’re not strong enough. They don’t like you. You don’t fit in. You’re too much. They’re going to get tired of you. The lists goes on and on of how satan just slips in lies to every thing he throws.

Do you know how many times the Bible tells us who we are according to God, what God thinks of us, who God says we are or should be?

A LOT.

We are a new creation. (2 Corinthians 5:17)

We are His Workmanship (Ephesians 2:10)

We are chosen. (1 Peter 2:9)

We are children of God. (Romans 8:16)

We are forgiven. (Colossians 1:13-14)

We are FREE. (Galatians 5:1)

We are LOVED. (John 3:16)

We are fearfully and wonderfully made. (Psalm 139:14)

Those are just to name a few of hundreds.

So why is it that we listen to every thing BUT who the Bible tells us we are?

An unanswered text. A party we weren’t invited to. A careless word. A picture. Number of likes.

That’s a big question mark for me.

On my birthday, I pulled up a facebook post from a friend/mentor of mine who recently passed away. I immediately started crying. Staring at these words that felt like they were just sent to me I missed it so much. If there was one person on this earth that believed every Biblical word of who I am, Deb Douglas believed every single word. As I sat on the floor crying my friend said “Do you see what she saw in you?”

Absolutely not.

NOW why do we believe satan.. who doesn’t love us, doesn’t care about us, doesn’t want us to succeed, doesn’t want us to believe anything GOOD??

Over God? Who loves us, gave His Only Son to die for us, Who sets us free, gives us life, redeems us from the pit, ONLY wants what is GOOD, Who knows what is best, Who made us in His Imagine, fearfully and wonderfully. Over people God puts in our lives to believe in us? Who love us, care about us and who are pouring into us?

If you were standing in front of these two people- God the perfect creator and Father Who loves you like no other or satan- a dirty, rotten thief- who would you choose to believe?

This week, Team Impact is in Montgomery. Today I heard one of the guys tell the story of a $100 bill. He said “If I had a $100 bill and all you had to do is raise your hand and I would give it to you, how many of you would raise your hand?” He then says “If I went and gossiped about this $100 bill and made up rumors about it, would you still raise your hand?” Then he says “What if I crumbled it, stepped on it, spit on it, threw dirt on it and picked it up soaking wet and dirty, would you still raise your hand?”

Most of the students got it. It doesn’t matter what you do to the $100 bill, it’s worth remains. What if we had this same concept of ourselves. Our worth remains in Jesus Christ. It doesn’t matter what the world does to us, says about us, makes up about us. Our worth remains.

Choose God. Choose Biblical Truth. Listen to Him. He loves you more than you will ever know.

You are loved.

You are worth it.

You are beautiful.

You are just enough.

You are wonderfully made.

You are who you were made to be.
