What You’ve Got

“Make a careful exploration of who you are and the work you have been given, and then sink yourself into that. Don’t be impressed with yourself. Don’t compare yourself with others. Each of you must take responsibility for doing the creative best you can with your own life.” Galatians 6:4-5

Have you ever spent time exploring who you are? But not who you think you are or who the world thinks you are or who Satan thinks you are.. but who God thinks you are? Have you ever thought about it long and hard? I constantly hear who satan thinks I am. He is constantly trying to drown out who God thinks we are. That is why you have to make a careful exploration of who we are! And the work we have been given. When I am down, listening to satan I think about the work God has given me. The things He has entrusted me with. The situations I’ve gone through and survived because of Him. I think about all that and how can I listen to satan tell me that I am worthless and desperate and alone and unloveable and unwanted? God doesn’t give battles to soldiers unequipped (through Him) to handle. He sees me as strong, loved, wanted, and able! The Bible tells us to think about who we are and the work you have been given, and then sink yourself into it. Know it, live it, proclaim it, be it!!! BE WHO YOU ARE AND WHAT HE HAS GIVEN YOU!

But here’s the twist, know who you are in Christ and what He has trusted you with.. but do not be impressed with yourself! Know who you are and what you’re capable of, but know it has nothing to do with you and everything to do with God. Without Him, I am nothing. Without Him, I have nothing. Without Him, I’m not capable of anything. Without Him, I am worthless. Without Him, I am desperate. Without Him, I am alone. Without Him, I am unloveable. Without Him, I am unwanted! Because of Him, I am everything, I have everything, and I am capable of anything (through Him)! It has nothing to do with you so don’t be impressed!

And don’t compare yourself to others. NOBODY is you. Your sister might look like you but she isn’t you. You might be the same height as the girl on the volleyball team, but she isn’t you. You might run just as fast as the 1st string quarterback, but he isn’t you. Do not compare yourself to others. She might have better hair than you, he might drive a nicer car than you, their house might be bigger, and her husband might make more money.. but they are not you. Save yourself a world of hurt and compare yourself to one person- JESUS CHRIST!

Lastly we’re told that each of us must take responsibility for doing the creative best you can with our own life. You have the exact life you have for a reason. I am Amy Catherine Smith for a reason. I am nobody else. I have the exact people in my life that I need. No more, no less. I have experienced the life I have because nobody else can handle it better than me (through Him)! You are you for a reason. Everything that you’ve seen, everything that you’ve been through, everything that you are has been entrusted in you for a reason. Nobody else is able to carry it but you (through Him)! We must take responsibility for doing the best with the life we’ve been given instead of wishing for another life or comparing it to someone else’s. If you were supposed to have that life, God would have given it to you. If you were supposed to have that hair, that car, that house, that mom, that husband, that family, (etc.) God would have given it to you! Do your best with the life you have! It is yours for a reason!
