The One Who Got Away?
If you’ve ever watched Full House, you know who Aunt Becky and Uncle Jesse are. If you’re a freak like me, you know them as John Stamos and Lori Loughlin. And you know that there have been articles for years about John Stamos referring to Lori Loughlin as “the one who got away.” Their timing was never right. He was married. She got married. He divorced. Now Lori Loughlin has beautiful children and a great family. While I know John Stamos did not come up with that saying but they are the two I think about when it comes to mind. Because they make it easy to believe from Full House and their real life friendship to this day that the one got away.
This “the one that got away” concept has always kind of scared me. What if we are capable of letting THE ONE get away? But are we?
Every guy I’ve walked away from, or the ones who have walked away from me, I think about this. Maybe a little later down the road, when the reality kicks in that I’ll probably never be friends again with that guy and all the sudden I think “what if he’s the one that got away.” And I start to panic.
Recently, I walked away from a guy, a friend, a potential relationship for really no one reason. I just didn’t feel like God was calling me to that. As time as gone on, satan has definitely tried to talk me out of that, making me think I did it for all reasons that I can fix. (Because I’m a fixer and a pleaser.) I began to have this “the one that got away” fear.
And that’s when I began to think.. “Can we really let THE ONE get away?” I believe that if we are truly seeking The Lord and His Will for our lives.. yes, we will make mistakes, but for the most part God’s Path will be the one we follow. As much as nothing can snatch us out of His Hand, I believe nothing can snatch us out of His Plan. Now we may take some God-undesired detours, we might take a break in the road when that wasn’t God’s intentions.. but if we are truly seeking the Lord, His Plan will be our plan.
So, girls sit back and know that if you are truly seeking the Lord, the man for you will not get away.
High school seniors, college decisions are important. But God will lead you to the right path at the right time. It might be for a year, two, three, or all four years of college. God might call you to make one decision and a completely different one the next year. It’s worth it. Don’t give up!
Parents, God will lead your family exactly where you need to be. As long as you are following The Lord and His Will for your lives, you have an opportunity that got away. He will have you right where He placed you!
I could go on and on, but I think you get it. If you are seeking the Lord, He will make your paths straight.
As time has gone on, as much I miss the friendships with the guys I have had to walk away from, God has shown me reason after reason exactly why each one was not the one. It is such a blessing to know that God has our desires in mind, as well as our best in mind. He loves us so much that He has plan for his, to prosper us and not to harm us, plans to give us a hope and a future. Jeremiah 29:11
